Affiliate disclosure

Last updated 22 August 2026

The short version: some links on this site earn us a commission, it never costs you anything extra, and it has no effect on which paintings we show you or how we score them. The longer version is below, because you should be able to check that rather than take our word for it.

How we make money

Cherished Canvas is free to use. When you click through to a painting and buy it, the marketplace may pay us a small share of its own fee as a referral commission. We take part in the eBay Partner Network for this. If we add other marketplaces we will name them here.

The seller sets the price and you pay exactly what you would have paid arriving at the listing any other way. Nothing is added on for us.

Why it does not affect what you see

Paintings are scored by an automated pipeline that looks at the listing itself — how old the work appears, the quality of the frame, whether there is a signature worth researching, the wording of the provenance, the size, the asking price against comparable work. The scoring code has no access to commission rates and no concept of what we would earn. Ranking is by score.

We have kept it that way deliberately. The only reason to use a service like this is that it tells you the truth about what it has found, and a scoring system that quietly favoured whatever paid best would be worthless — to you immediately, and to us shortly afterwards.

What commission does not buy

  • A higher score, or a place further up the list.
  • Inclusion. Paintings appear because they scored well, not because they are commissionable.
  • A more flattering description. The wording of a find is generated from the listing, not from what we stand to earn.

Sponsors — restorers, valuers and galleries — may pay for a clearly labelled placement in the experts directory when that launches. Paid placements will always be marked as such, and they are separate from the daily finds.

What we track when you click

Clicking an affiliate link records which listing it was and when, plus your account if you are signed in, so commission is attributed correctly and we can see which finds people actually pursue. The privacy policy covers this in full.

Questions

If you think something on this site reads like it was written to earn a commission rather than to be useful, please tell us — [email protected] or the contact form. That is exactly the feedback worth having.

Cherished Canvas doesn't sell paintings. Some links to marketplaces are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you buy through one — at no extra cost to you. Scores are worked out before any of that and never take commission into account.

Every painting here is assessed automatically, by scoring heuristics and AI reading the seller’s photographs and description. Nothing on this site is an appraisal, valuation, authentication or condition report, and no expert has examined any work in person. Treat it as a starting point for your own research, never as a substitute for professional advice.
